An evening with Jock Serong & Kim Wilson
6.00pm, Friday 4 September
Heads & Tales Bookstore
Join us at Heads & Tales Bookstore for an evening with Jock Serong and Kim Wilson as they discuss the remarkable life of Fletcher Jones.
Australians of a certain generation will remember Fletcher Jones - the stores, the clothing, the daggy dad slacks - but few know the extraordinary man behind the name. Until now, as his remarkable life becomes the subject of Jock Serong’s latest book, A Suitable Man: The Eccentric Empire of Fletcher Jones.
David Fletcher Jones was an autodidact, wanderer and dreamer who became a visionary businessman and social entrepreneur. His story offers a fascinating window into twentieth-century Australia, spanning immigration, manufacturing, the city-country divide and the rise and fall of wool. At its heart, though, is a story of fundamental human decency and a belief that business could turn a profit while also doing good.
Jock is the master storyteller behind bestselling, beloved and award-winning novels: Quota, The Rules of Backyard Cricket, On the Java Ridge, Preservation, The Burning Island, The Settlement and Cherrywood.
Jock will be joined in-conversation by journalist and friend of the bookstore, Kim Wilson.
Tickets are $15 and include a glass of wine or bubbles on arrival. Books will be available to purchase on the evening. Secure your spot here.
